Elowah Falls
In the summertime, I try to get the kids out hiking at least once a week. Today we visited my favorite, Elowah falls.
This is a familiar viewpoint, but I just can't resist it, especially since I'm shooting with a slightly different kit than last time I visited. This was taken with the Sony A7rii and the Zeiss Batis 25 and is a pano made from 6 images. The final image is 135mp!

Elowah falls is a go-to location whenever the temperature drops and ice is certain in the Portland area.
The last time we saw this waterfall, it was almost completely iced over. Same crew - me and all three kids. We hiked both trails and even spent some time hiking down stream a bit for this first image.
These kids are troopers and they get more and more at-home in the great outdoors every year.
I've been waiting for a few days of freezing temperatures for a couple months now so the waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge would freeze. I've always loved photos of them, but hadn't seen them myself or had the chance to make photos.
Luckily there was a long enough break in the wind and snow for the kids and I to drive out there and check out a few. Our first stop was Elowah falls which we just visited a few weeks ago in much warmer temperatures.
The hike in was a little more work than the kids remembered, but I kept assuring them it would be worth it and it was. Emily called us about half-way in and told us that the weather reporters were warning of an approaching storm that was going to arrive earlier than we had expected. That gave us some motivation to push a little harder.
On the way back to Portland we stopped and checked out Horsetail falls and Multnomah falls.

I took the kids out for a 5 mile hike on Monday and we tackled both the McCord Creek waterfalls. Elowah falls is the bigger, lower falls and Upper McCord Creek falls is the smaller, split waterfall. In addition, the upper falls has a pretty exposed section of trail with a hand rail and a really long drop on one side.
This was an especially big deal as Caedon has a fear of heights that I've been trying to help him with. I'm really proud of him for pushing through this fear.
