Coava Coffee has a beautiful coffee bar and a really unique way of making coffee. Those look like regular Chemex coffee brewers, but they use Able laser etched stainless filters instead of the usual paper filters. It produces a much different cup that you just have to experience. More oils, more fines and a complex taste that grows as you finish the cup.

Sunday Morning Coffee Run
Sunday morning I woke up to the sad realization that I had run out of coffee beans. I'm sure it was due to the extra weekend day on Friday that I spent at home with the kids, but either way, that sort of problem wasn't acceptable. I asked my oldest, Caedon if he'd like to come with me to Good Coffee to get some beans and a cup of coffee and he was into it.
We ended up choosing a special edition from Coava to take home and Caedon tried his coffee both with cream and without to see which way he preferred. I'm proud to say that he took it without.
The light that morning was amazing.
Visiting Portland
I usually visit Coava Coffee at least once a week or so. If you are in Portland and haven't you are missing out.
Apparently, it's also in the Japanese guide books too! I met a group of incredibly friendly folks who are visiting town and helped them out with a group photo.
The man at the back with the hat used to live here in town and spoke such great English, that I was surprised when I took a photo with his iPhone and everything was in Japanese!
They agreed to a group photo with my camera too and then took off for their next destination which I believe is Stumptown.
The man on the left hand side in the tan hat was carrying a well worn, and obviously loved Olympus OM1 and told me it had belonged to his grandfather. One more thing- the woman up front on the right side was all smiles except for when I took the shot.
All of them were incredibly friendly and I really hope they have a great visit. I gave them my website address too so If any of you stop by the site, Please do say "Hi" in the comments!

Rainy Afternoon Hideout
Unfortunately, I didn't get to hang out for more than a few minutes while I was waiting to buy some beans to take home. I really love this place, especially when I'm not in a hurry and get to sit down for awhile.
To Go
Another coffee cup image. Met my friend Scott here this morning and I had to get the second cup to go.
