I don't end up with a lot of these photos where the subject is clearly aware that I'm taking their picture because
a. I've asked permission
b. I was less obnoxious
In this case, being the only other person crossing the street and carrying a camera while wearing a suit probably drew his attention.

I love afternoon light in the winter. I'm not saying we get a lot of it that isn't blocked, or made dull by overcast skies, but on the days that it shows its face, I have a really hard time not taking an outside lunch and largely skipping the opportunity to sit down and eat. Today was one of those days.
On this one, I had a quick taco, a cup of coffee and found two huge books at Good Will that I just had to bring home. One is a beautiful book on the Steens Mountains which is my favorite place. The other is an astronomy book that I brought home for my sons. They were impressed by its sheer size though that same feature made my wife raise an eyebrow.

There are so many birds - mainly crows - downtown that it's not too surprising to find the occasional feather on the ground left behind as a sort of souvenir.

This guy is out here consistently at the food carts playing R and B and Jazz classics. It's always a nice addition to the noise of the transit mall and the heavy duty crowds surrounding the carts.

Today, I ended up downtown at the end of the workday. It's a bit of a throwback to the 5 year stretch when I worked down here everyday. There's so much going on and so many interesting people on every corner.

I'm not sure it's apparent in this photo, but that cart is full of underwear and mis matched socks.
Oh, and an energy drink. Do people keep a stash of those in their underwear drawer too?
This one was taken a couple weeks back, but I keep seeing it while going through images and really like it. There are abandoned locks like this all over Portland.
