Just picked up the Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2 this week and so far, I'm really loving it and find that it's way more than I expected.
I shot the 24mm f/1.8 Sony Zeiss as my main lens for a couple years on the NEX 7 and absolutely loved it. Loved the FOV, the 24mm feel, the speed, the color and the Zeiss mojo. It was so easy to shoot with. Nailed focus, was always fast enough and I rarely wanted to take it off the camera. I ended up selling it after I moved to the A7, but not without a serious amount of debating. I tried it in non-crop mode and then cropped to 4x5 or square in post. I shot in APS-C mode in camera....Man it was a great lens. but the editing required to take full advantage of it was too much so I finally sold it and bought the FE 35mm f/2.8 which I used as my daily lens for nearly 2 years and Though it was the right FOV, it didn't have the same vibe...so I sold it. I had picked up an RX1r and it has a far superior 35mm lens so I just wasn't using the 2.8 anymore.
So, moving on to the Batis-I thought I was just getting a really nice wide angle, but was pleasantly surprised to find the spirit of an old friend. I find it funny that the FOV isn't the thing I really loved about that old Sony Zeiss 24 but I didn't know until I put this lens on. So, It has a crazy minimum focus distance, Zeiss Mojo for days, amazing color, crispness and lightening fast AF.
There's really something unique about this lens!
